Frequently Asked Questions

Hazel Oak Farms does not advertise a blanket free-shipping threshold — costs are calculated at checkout, and the workshop ships to both the US and Canada. Because solid hardwood furniture and large slabs are heavy, bigger items may move by freight at a separate cost, and the business also offers its own delivery service across Iowa plus Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha, Moline and St Louis. Made-to-order and custom pieces carry production lead times that are not published. Call (319) 559-0031 for a shipping quote and lead time before ordering.

The workshop publishes a refund policy on its site, but the return window and conditions are not summarised on the storefront — confirm them by phone or email before buying. Expect the standard terms for a maker: custom commissions and made-to-order pieces are generally not returnable, and return freight on heavy solid-wood items would normally be the buyer's responsibility unless the piece arrived damaged. Because every piece comes from a different board, grain and colour will differ from the listing photos, which is not usually grounds for return. Photograph everything on arrival.

Every Hazel Oak Farms code listed on smartstorereview is tested against the live checkout before publication and rechecked on a regular schedule, with expired codes removed. Small workshops change promotions without notice, and codes are commonly restricted to ready-made stock rather than custom commissions or lumber and slab orders, and may carry a minimum spend. Always confirm the discount appears in your order total before paying. If a code is rejected, work down the list rather than completing the order at full price, and check whether a discount affects return eligibility.

Checkout runs on Shopify, so major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover are accepted, usually alongside digital wallets such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Shop Pay and Google Pay, and instalment options may appear on higher-value furniture. The workshop also sells through eBay, which adds that platform's buyer protection and shows its 100% positive feedback history. Paying by credit card or PayPal is the sensible default on a commission, since both give you a dispute route. Avoid bank transfers or any payment request made outside the store's own checkout.

The sycamore clock has that lovely fleck figure you only get in real sycamore, and you can tell it came off a board rather than a production line. Ethan answered the phone himself when I asked about diameter. It is heavy, so I put it into a stud — worth planning for. Two years on the finish is still flawless.

Commissioned a walnut side table and the craftsmanship is excellent — proper joinery, beautifully finished. Communication was direct and friendly. The only thing I would improve is the paperwork: nothing on the site tells you the return window or lead time, so I had to call to find out both.

No complaint about the quality at all. What caught me out was variation — the grain on my piece was noticeably different from the photo, which I gather is unavoidable with solid wood but was not flagged on the listing. Also worth knowing that custom orders are not returnable. Lovely work, just read the small print first.
